AJ Brown Locked In: Eagles Star Eyes Next Challenge After Super Bowl

Writer's picture: Gabriel EsparzaGabriel Esparza

It is hard for franchises to find players like AJ Brown. He is undoubtedly a top, high-level talent. Additionally, he's able to make a big play at any time, even when the passing game isn't necessarily allowing him to get into a rhythm. However, the wideout showed another level of separation between him and other present-day greats with his latest comments.

AJ Brown shared something of a telling post on Instagram in which he shared, "My thrill for this game comes when I dominate...It's the journey that I love the most. Back 2 Work." Athletes will have varying degrees of openness. It's nice for fans to be able to get a glimpse, even if small, into the mentality of NFL players. This quote shows how he views the latest Super Bowl LIX accomplishment.

Some are misinterpreting this as him being selfish. Instead, the Eagles' WR is sharing how much more he values the pursuit of a ring over actually being a champion. This is a great sign for any Philadelphia fans.

Complacency is often too easy to fall into. And that's fair enough. Professional players spend their entire childhoods and careers dreaming about standing under the confetti with a Lombardi Trophy. It's understandable if some lose the edge and some of the drive that allowed them to become champions.

Meaning behind AJ Brown's message

But this appears to be far from the case for AJ Brown. He is telling us that he is a process-over-results guy. And that is harder to come by. Being able to stay 'hungry' and motivated is not a common quality. After people have certain levels of success, it can become too easy to allow bad habits to creep back in.

However, the former Ole Miss player is explaining how his joy comes from being on the field itself. Winning 1-on-1s and exploiting secondaries is what fuels him. And he'll be the first to tell you that doesn't just happen on Sundays or during the playoffs. Being able to consistently produce is a result of putting in the necessary work when the cameras aren't present.

His letting everyone know that he's back at it is exactly that. No further off-time or taking it easy. The hunter feels the need to get back to honing his craft in order for him to do what he does best. Granted, the Pro Bowler could be just sharing this to share this as an empty gesture.

But anyone who's watched the Philly player knows that he demands excellence and is passionate about the game of football. The post is far from a selfish plea for more targets or a void non-statement. AJ Brown is reminding himself most of all that everyone is currently sitting at 0-0. When the new season starts, he'll be prepared to defend the team's status as reigning champions, more so than a lot of past winners.
