Written by: Treal Holland II
The NBA seems like a year-round sport at this point with the finals ending then the Draft right into the summer league. The California Classic gives us a glimpse into some teams & players before the majority of the league heads to the Las Vegas Summer League.
The newly crowned NBA Champion Golden State Warriors are the host for this year's games.
The Warriors, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers compete in four games over the two-day event.
Today kicked games off with the Lakers taking on the Heat followed by the Kings vs Warriors.
Lakers won going away 100-66. But this isn't always about wins & losses this is about guys fighting for roster spots & rotation minutes. Not just for the teams they are with for the summer league but putting out the tape for the entire league to evaluate.
Mac McClung leads the Lakers with 13 points off the bench. Shareef O'Neal was active for the Lakers with 6 points & 6 rebounds in 15 minutes. Scottie Pippen Jr. finished with 14 points & 6 rebounds.
The Heat was led by Javonte Smart with 13 points who saw spot minutes in 17 total games last season between the Bucks & Heat.
The second game saw the Kings get the win over the Warriors 84-68.
The talk of Day 1 has been Keegan Murray the 4th pick in this year's draft made his presence felt immediately. He scored 26 points on 10-14FG while making 4-5 from three-point range.
He also added 8 rebounds making a smooth transition thus far to the league.
Patrick Baldwin Jr. the Warriors first-round pick this season did not suit up for the game likely being saved until the Las Vegas Summer League.
